For the past 12 years, or so, we have been privileged to have a deacon (Heidi Sambrook) in the church with a special remit to care for the more mature in age amongst us. Her little group has a spread of ages, currently ranging from early 70s to mid 80's. Some are in care homes, others are disabled but still able to cope at home with a bit of help and love. Some are fortunate enough to still be fully independent but greatly appreciate the fellowship they get with those of a similar age.

What groups and activities are there? Each Thursday morning a small house group takes place in Heidi's home, particularly for those unable to attend regular evening meetings. Because the men are currently able to participate in some of the evening groups, the thursday morning house group tends to be all female. The chance to get to see other people, to chat and fellowship together is particularly important to many who rarely see folk otherwise. The group is a lot more than refreshments and chat, mind you. Most weeks someone will share something from the Word, be it an outside speaker, Heidi or one of the ladies. Other members of the group will also share what they have received from The Lord. Equally, there are times of worship, prayer for one another and the occasional dvd.

Heidi also organises trips out for lunch or afternoon tea at least every couple of months with the assistance of several volunteer drivers who regularly offer their services. There is also a lot of work done in visiting the folks in their own homes and taking them out individually, be it for shopping or simply to take the chance to get out and about.
