Church Life

Youth Work

A look at the aims behind the youth work and a brief guide to the activities and groups we run for those aged 11-18.

At The King's Gate Church we see children and young people as a very important part of our church. As such we endeavour to make them feel welcome and included; to enable them to have an active role in church life.

We believe that the church youth work has a unique role in the development of our young people. We are able to provide good spiritual guidance and development while also engaging with the outcomes of 'Every Child Matters' and 'Youth matters'. Child protection is also a key priority.

KGC Youth Aims to:

  • Initiate contact and interact with non church young people
  • Enable young people to participate fully in church and community life
  • Empower young people to make good life choices, develop their skills and grasp their calling
  • Develop their relationship and interaction with others and with God
  • Encourage young people to inspire others in faith
  • Develop working relationships with other churches in Bognor Regis and therefore offer increased youth work provision

On Sunday Mornings we have the following groups

Seekers: This group is for 11-14 year olds, it is run by Donna and Sarah and aims to seek more of God and develop a deeper relationship with Him. Over the next few months the group are looking at who God is, how to have relationship with Him and what He wants from us.

Revival: This groups is for 14-18 year olds and is run by Mike, who has been looking at a number of subjects with them including the character of God and Creation, Evolution & science in the Bible. The group are currently meeting together with the main church group on Sunday mornings.

Meet the Father: This is our youth church for 11-18 year olds on the first Sunday of every month. For this the young people are separate for a whole meeting geared towards them. In this meeting we worship together, pray together and have discussions or talks all aimed at the youth and where they are in their walk with God. We actively encourage the young people to be involved with the running of Meet the Father.

During the week we have the following groups

Contact: This youth group is for 11-16 year olds, meeting every Monday evening from 7:30-9pm at the Beehive in William Street. The aim of this group is to provide a relaxed social environment were young people can interact, develop their relationships with each other, the leaders and with God. We have discussions and activities both inside and out including pool, table tennis, Xbox, bowling and going to the cinema.

We also take a group to Soul Survivor every year; the last few have been alongside young people from other churches in Bognor as well. This year Soul Survivor will be 16th-20th August 2008.

Young People's Cell Group: We have just started a cell group meeting for those between 16 and 25, meeting every Monday evening from 7:30-9:30pm. The group is designed for those who want to go a little deeper in their walk with God, to learn how to study their Bible, to prayer, and to get to know one another better. There will be plenty of social activites as well and, no doubt, a large amount of food consumption!

Workshops: Our youth worker is also planning some workshops over the next few months looking at such topics as 'Facing the challenge of youth work', 'drugs and alcohol', 'sex and relationships', 'moral panics' and 'child protection'.
